Steel Bands

With the trio you have all the elements for great Caribbean music with the tenor pan, second pan and bass pan which come together to produce the classic Steel Band sound. It is also possible to have a 2 piece band to suit smaller budgets and playing area. The performances can be played as background music or the main music entertainment for the evening.

We have just arrived home and wanted to thank you and your great steel band for providing a wonderful day for Nigel’s 60th. We were also lucky to have great weather on the day which gave us all the feeling that we were actually in the Caribbean!! Paul and the crew played a fabulous set for our son’s BarMitzvah. Kaniki limboed like a man made of rubber, the kids thought he was amazing. We had the band at our 50th birthday party, just what we wanted- it was superb. We also had a Limbo dancer, supplied by Paul from Solid Steel.

Not wanting to rest on their laurels, Gideon Berger and Stephen Gallagher expanded the Block9 operation into two fields in 2019 and debuted their next crazy instalment - IICON. The gigantic stage resembling a head wearing a virtual reality headset blew minds with its sheer size and presence, and really does need to be seen to be believed. The venue is a huge structure built to look like a 1970s New York city block with a yellow cab smashed into the side. Always full of talented gay and queer performers, the club encourages audience participation and experimentation as part of the experience. There is only one rule at NYC Downlow, every visitor must have a moustache to enter - so if you haven't got a real 'stache, you can grab a fake one at the door for a small contribution to charity.

Yes, the Steel Band is very mobile and can be moved to different locations easily for the same event. For example they can perform outdoors during the drinks reception and then be moved indoors for the beginning of the meal. At Carnivals & Festivals, they can be moved to different spots or stalls through the day.

Our band always arrives one our event two hours to set up before the event start. The Trinidadian Music ensemble is primarily composed of steel idiophones such as steel pans, which are made from the bottoms of 55-galon oil barrels. Being hammered inward, in different areas to yield distinct sounds and pitches of the barrel bottom when struck with rubber-tipped mallets.
Having first played with his father’s band in the 70’s, Paul went on to lead his own bands, Solid Steel and the Caribbean party band, Kaiso. He then later established a successful agency called Tropical Entertainments that represented a wide range of performers from within the ethnic arts community in the UK. He continues to both perform with and manage the Cherry Pickers under his management company, ‘Cherry Ripe Management’. Hearts Aglow Records offer friendly Steelpan players to add that touch to your special event, making it a memorable experience. Summer on Steel is self-contained and brings all his own equipment, including a PA system suitable for up to 300 guests.
He offers an optional afternoon acoustic set, and will learn your first dance or a special request included in his booking fee. They even stayed at the end to present prizes to each team for coming 3rd, 2nd and 1st. It was a lot of fun and we will definitely recommend John and music for London to others. I unfortunately didn’t get chance to thank Carribe Steel so I wonder if you could please pass on our thanks for providing the music for our summer ball. They really were very good and fitted the occasion perfectly.
Pricing depends on the number of musicians you require and how long you want the band to play for. As a basic guide, prices start at £405 for two 40-minute performances in a two-hour window. I am just emailing to say thank you to John and the Carribe Steel Band for playing at our wedding on 30th July, and I would be very grateful if you could pass on our thanks. They were absolutely fantastic and everybody loved it and hasn’t stopped talking about them since. They were such a perfect surprise for all our guests (we hadn’t told anybody we had booked them!), and I wouldn’t hesitate in booking them for anything else we plan in the future.
